Description
This traditional Japanese apron or 'Maekake', is made in exactly the same way as they were in the Edo period, more that 250 years ago. Originally they were cut from old sails for fisherman to wear when processing their catches.
Genuine Maekake such as this one are only made in Toyohashi City. The cotton fabric is especially woven on a narrow loom in small batches, which gives the apron its distinctive texture. The fringed hem is also a traditional feature.
Japanese Maekake aprons are designed to cover the front of the body only.
