Description
Known as a 'Covent Garden Sieve', this type of basket was traditionally used by Covent Garden traders, for transporting fruit and vegetables. The basket has a domed base for strength. Market Porters used to carry them on their heads, sometimes competing to see who could balance the most. We have seen film footage from the 1920's, of porters doing just this outside our shop!
The baskets are handmade from white willow.
